Yahoo Releases Transparency Report In Wake Of Spying Revelations

Why does Yahoo even bother with transparency reports at this point? Between the massive e-mail hack and the company installing software that scanned e-mail accounts for the authorities, who cares about how many times you turned over data during legal requests.

Yahoo released its semiannual transparency report today, the first issued by the company since Reuters revealed earlier this month that Yahoo scanned its users’ email accounts at the behest of the U.S. government. In an effort to inform consumers about how frequently the government snoops on their information, and how often companies are able to narrow or refuse the requests, Yahoo and many other technology companies make public on a regular basis data about requests from law enforcement agencies for user data.
