Cybercriminals Earned $100K Just By Sending A DDoS Threat Email

Raise your hand if you've ever seen a movie or TV show that involves a ransom. Now, in every single on of those movies, how do the bad guys get caught? When it comes time to pick up the money! Seriously, who the hell is handing over money to these people (bitcoin or not)? eek!

A group called the Armada Collective are reaping the rewards of cybercrime by threatening jittery businesses with the idea of a DDoS attack -- without actually doing more than sending an email or two. Distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks, while taking no technical expertise beyond knowing how to flood a website with traffic and causing it to crash, may not be sophisticated -- but can still cause serious damage.
