Acer Provides 16k Olympic Laptops to UK Schools

With the close of the Olympics today, Acer will be collecting its laptops used in the games, refurbish the units and provide them to school systems around the UK. This could have been a home run for Acer if the company had given the laptops away for free, but chose instead to sell them at a greatly reduced price, scoring a triple bagger for Acer.

The PCs were used for everything from planning athletes' travel to supporting broadcasters zinging out footage of the dressage to the world, but in their new lives will be turned to crunching tasks like Year 6 maths homework, as part of a one-child, one-computer programme.
