Even Threatening Tweets are Free Speech, Judge Rules

A federal court judge has ruled in favor of the defendant in a case that set a legal precedent in the very gray area of Internet law. The ruling classifies a Tweet as a protected form of free speech and is protected from prosecution under the law. The ruling could have far reaching and long lasting consequences.

Harassing messages posted to Twitter or blog sites are the digital equivalent of soapbox rants, and are thus protected forms of free speech.
