Scottish Government Calls for .scot Internet Domain

Scotland is ready to apply to ICANN for a dotcom domain name early in 2012 when the Top Level Domain names are up for grabs. Scotland will be applying for .scot to establish a ‘distinct online identity’ and secure the name first before anyone else applies for the domain name.

The new effort to have .scot created follows an announcement that applications for new top level domains (TLDs) will be sought in 2012.
