Enermax MaxRevo 1800W Power Supply Review

Enermax sets its sights on the very high end with this new MaxRevo 1800W unit. You will however need to be on 230v to eke out that much power, those of us with 120v input will be looking at a 1600W unit. However if you are building a high end HEDT with a huge multicore CPU or are needed multiple GPUs in your system, this one is worth a look.

Enermax Technology Corporation is a company that is well known in the world of power supplies and general computing alike. Founded in 1990, Enermax has made a name for itself by providing solid performing power supplies, among other computer components, cases, and accessories. Enermax' current lines of power supplies encompass a wide range of products targeted at various market segments. In addition to being a retail presence with its Enermax brand power supplies, Enermax Technology Corporation used to be one of the few true OEM designers of power supplies. Its power supplies however, only rarely showed up under other labels including Grow Up Japan, Sapphire, and its house brand Lepa with that time of independent design and production seeming to have passed. Today, we are looking at the newest product in Enermax's MaxRevo line; the MaxRevo 1800W (EMR1800EXT) which is designed by Enermax.

Taking It To The Max.........One More Time

The Enermax MaxRevo 1800W is the latest in the MaxRevo line of power supplies that we have seen from Enermax. The big difference today being that this unit represents the largest capacity unit we have seen in this line to date. That, also, is something we should address from the get fo. This unit is marketed as the MaxRevo 1800W. However, for those of us that have 115v/120v AC input this unit is limited to only 1600W. So, today, all of the tests that you see will be geared to this 1600W capacity. Now, when we look at this unit from that perspective in is only 100W larger than the other largest Enermax unit we have seen and it is equal in capacity to the largest Lepa branded Enermax built unit we have seen. As such, Enermax is not a new player to this high capacity market and our real question simply becomes how well does Enermax do this time? Before moving on to see, though, let's see what Enermax has to say about this unit and its product placement:

MAXREVO 1800 is a premium power supply for supercomputers with high-end components and multiple graphics cards. Six powerful +12V rails and 12 PCI-E connectors provide strong output capabilities without compromising hardware security. MAXREVO 1800 has a dual efficiency certification for 115V and 230V and complies with the 80 PLUS GOLD and 80 PLUS GOLD 230V EU requirements. The patented ENERMAX Turbo Switch design offers the option of setting the fan speed to a maximum of 3100 RPM at the touch of a button. This can improve the cooling of critical components by 10-15C compared to normal operation and also increase the airflow in the chassis. The high-density PCB design allows MAXREVO 1800 to achieve a chassis depth of only 18 cm without sacrificing efficiency or performance. The special design can even deliver up to 1900 watts of peak output power.

Let's now take a look at what we get when we purchase the Enermax MaxRevo 1800W power supply in terms of documentation, accessories, cable count, rail layout, output characteristics, and general build quality.
