Battlefield V

Battlefield V was officially released to the public on November 20th of 2018. This game has been long anticipated, and thanks to an update before launch this game now includes NVIDIA RTX technology utilizing DXR Ray Tracing on reflections in this game with NVIDIA RTX video cards. This game uses the Frostbite 3.0 engine. Our run-through consists of playing the Multiplayer 64 player map Rotterdam. We take the average of three runs, because this game is multiplayer and dynamic in nature, we will represent the performance in bar graph form.


Highest Playable Settings 1440p

All of the performance from here on out is determined by what is playable on the MSI GeForce RTX 2080 GAMING X TRIO video card. The comparison cards are then compared at the same settings apples-to-apples.

At 1440p the MSI RTX 2080 GAMING X TRIO was playable in DX11 with the highest in-game settings and produced near 100FPS average. This allowed a very smooth gameplay experience. Performance is 31% faster than the factory overclocked MSI GTX 1080 GAMING X video card.

Highest Playable Settings 4K

The MSI RTX 2080 GAMING X TRIO can also play this game well at 4K producing over 60FPS average. The experience is very smooth and this video card actually gives us a good 4K experience. Performance is 35% faster than the MSI GTX 1080 GAMING X video card.


Overclocked Performance

Overclocking the MSI RTX 2080 GAMING X TRIO brings performance up over 70FPS at 4K! That’s very impressive. Performance is 37% faster than an overclocked MSI GTX 1080 GAMING X.


DXR Ray Tracing Performance

Here is what you’ve been waiting for, the Ray Tracing DXR performance on the MSI RTX 2080 GAMING X TRIO. Unfortunately, we could not find a playable DXR setting in this game. At the lowest possible DXR setting of "Low" at 1080p performance averaged 43FPS. The problem though is that performance is very choppy and inconsistent when playing. There is a lot of lag, pauses, choppiness, and the framerate is all over the place determined on what you are looking at and where you are in the map. It can go from 60FPS down to 35FPS in an instant depending on where you look. This makes multiplayer darn near unplayable.

Overclocking brings performance up to 54FPS average, but you still have the wild framerate inconsistencies and choppiness when playing.

Consider this, DX12 is already hurting performance and on top of that you throw in DXR. It just kills performance and makes the game unplayable. We recommend right now not using DXR currently, but we will be testing the new patch that came out this monring.
