AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX & 2950X Unboxing

AMD is allowing us to pull back the curtain on it upcoming Generation 2 Threadripper packaging. The new model 2900WX and 2950X CPUs will certainly not be missed on retail shelves and this time the CPUs have a sort of "collector's case" for those of us enthusiasts that like to display such things. It also works a lot better than it did last time around.

There is not much to say about the Threadripper's new packaging, but we have a few pictures and video to share with you that are not the stock photos that were leaked last week. Today AMD is allowing us to show you the 2990WX (available for pre-order at $1800 at Newegg) and 2950X packaging and unboxing.

The reviewers Threadripper Gen 2 kit did come in a fancy box with an even fancier presentation inside for the 2990WX in a aluminum presentation.

Of course this packing above is simply for show and will not be available in retail.

The Threadripper retail packaging this time is not near obtuse as it was last time around and probably best resembles a kid's lunchbox in both form and function. Once you "rip" open the paper seal around the box, it opens very much like a lunchbox.

The top paper seal is adorned with a hologram logo and the Threaripper model number and specifications.

As you can see, our 2990WX is 32C/64T with a 4.2GHz max Boost clock and a 3.0GHz Base clock. If you scan the QR code, you are lead back to an AMD verification site that will explain to you how to validate if the holographic seal is legit or not.

And of course if you are wondering where our Threadrippers are now, this should give you a good idea.

Of course we took the time to shoot a video of the Threadripper Gen 2 unboxing so that you can see it all in action.
