Enermax RevoBron 700W Power Supply Review

The Enermax RevoBron 700W is a computer power supply that looks to satisfy those of us not looking to spend an arm and a leg on PSUs. It saves us a few dollars in that it is Bronze level efficiency and semi-modular. For $90 however, it is chock full of cool features, and if it shows to be a good PSU, it may be very well worth the price.

Introduction

Enermax Technology Corporation is a company that is well known in the world of power supplies and general computing alike. Founded in 1990, Enermax has made a name for itself by providing solid performing power supplies, among other computer components, cases, and accessories. Enermax' current lines of power supplies encompass a wide range of products targeted at various market segments. In addition to being a retail presence with its Enermax brand power supplies, Enermax Technology Corporation used to be one of the few true OEM designers of power supplies. Its power supplies however, only rarely showed up under other labels including Grow Up Japan, Sapphire, and its house brand Lepa with that time of independent design and production seeming to have passed. Today, we are looking at the Enermax RevoBron 700W (ERB700AWT) which comes from CWT.

Channel Well Technology (CWT) was founded and began manufacturing power supplies in 1993. Since 1993 Channel Well Technology products have shown up under various guises including Antec, Xclio, 2theMax, CWT, Thermaltake, Xigmatek, Enermax, and Corsair. While most familiar to our US users from when they used to provide OEM services for Antec, CWT is one of the more complete OEM manufacturers as they have a fairly high level of vertical integration providing transformers all the way up to its well designed independently regulated SMPS.

RevoBron...Revolution Bronze.....Is It a Third Place Revolution?

Few companies have made as many trips through our test bench as Enermax has. Today, Enermax is back once more with their RevoBron 700W. This is a bit interesting as the last product we saw from Enermax that was also a 700W product was a bit over a year ago and it was a throwback product of sorts in that it used two fans. The RevoBron 700W differs from that Revolution DUO 700W as, today, we have what has become the more normal single overhead fan design (though, to be fair, the dual fan design that the Revolution DUO 700W had used to be a very common design). Now, while the Revolution DUO 700W was a passing unit it was not terribly impressive. So, today, we have to wonder with the RevoBron 700W if the change back to what is now a more normal layout and a bit of movement down the product stack results in a unit that can do some real damage in our load testing and to the competition. Before moving on to see if that happened, let's see what Enermax has to say about this unit:

RevoBron series is 80 PLUS Bronze certified with up to 90% high efficiency at typical load at 230VAC. DC to DC circuit, dual +12V rail design, together with 100% 105C Japanese electrolytic capacitors make RevoBron a really stable and durable unit. As for fan, RevoBron is equipped with Twister Bearing fan for silent cooling and Dust Free Rotation (DFRTM) technology to make the PSU fan perform a self-cleaning spin for 10 seconds upon startup to blow away the accumulated dust. Furthermore, RevoBron comes with an exclusive accessory, COOLERGENIE, the intelligent 2-in-1 fan controller that provides system fans with semi-fanless control and fan-delay function. RevoBron series perfectly supports mainstream gaming rigs, multimedia systems, or home theater PCs.

Let's now take a look at what we get when we purchase the Enermax RevoBron 700W power supply in terms of documentation, accessories, cable count, rail layout, output characteristics, and general build quality.
