Phanteks Glacier C399A Threadripper Waterblock Review

The Phanteks Glacier C399A is a custom-designed water cooling block built specifically for AMD's new Threadripper processors. It has great looks, Frag-Harder Disco Lights, is built like a tank, and seems to be just what the doctor ordered when it comes to cooling overclocked Threadripper CPUs.

This we as we continue our AMD Threadripper cooling reviews, we have the Phanteks Glacier C399A waterblock on the test bench. Previously we have reviewed the XSPC Raystorm NEO, the Bykski, and the EK EVO waterblocks for Threadripper. And we have also taken a look at a couple of AIO TR4 coolers from Enermax.

Phanteks C399A

While the Glacier C399A lacks a sexy naming scheme, it is pretty damn sexy when it comes to looks. The C399A is selling for $100 at Newegg. Here is what Phanteks has to say about it.

The Glacier C399a waterblock from Phanteks is custom-designed for the TR4-socket from the ground up. Crafted to push AMD’s high-end CPU’s (RYZEN Threadripper) to its limit with a massive copper base and fin surface area. The Glacier C399a is made from premium materials, featuring integrated RGB lighting and VITON sealing from the Automotive and Aerospace Industries to deliver the best quality possible from Phanteks.

The C399A comes in very sturdy packaging and should deliver to your door without issue. Besides the waterblock itself, you get cabling so you can plug in your Frag-Harder Disco Lights and tube of Phanteks' own TIM. While I did not use the TIM, I did squeeze it out to see how much is in the syringe. There is about enough TIM for a single Threadripper installation. So, keep that in mind when you go to install your C399A and I will touch a bit more on this on the conclusion page.

The block is extremely well built. It certainly has its own style and the finish on the surfaces is excellent and professionally applied.

The clear acrylic top is crystal clear and gives you a good view of everything inside. The block's hardware is all in "one piece" configuration out of the box. Nothing to put together, except getting it plumbed into your system of course.

The coldplate is nickel plated copper and near perfectly flat.
