Cyonic AU-650x 650W Compact Power Supply Review

You are likely unfamiliar with the Cyonic brand of PC power suppliers, much like ourselves. It is always exciting to get a new PSU brand as we have no idea of what to expect. Before you scoff, let's keep in mind that this PSU is built by Seasonic, so we may have something here in a very small package. And their logo is pretty cool...

Introduction

Cyonic is a new brand in the PC DIY market having been set up in 2014. To date, Cyonic has been a brand with a singular focus as their only product lines come in the form of power supplies. Those lines include the AUx, AU, ARISE, and PTx. Today, we will be looking at a member of the AUx line of power supplies the AU-650x (AU-650x) made by Seasonic.

Seasonic is one of the older companies producing consumer power supplies having been founded in 1975 and entering the PC power supply production market in 1980. During that more than 30 years as a company Seasonic has cultivated lines of power supplies that are today some of the standard bearers for efficiency and quiet computing. This focus and Seasonic’s reputation for quality, has lead to a real explosion in production as Seasonic can be found providing OEM services on various model lines for Antec, Cyonic, Corsair, PC Power and Cooling, XFX, Cooler Master, and of course under its own Seasonic brand.

Funny, It Doesn't Look Like a Cylon....

Well, it doesn't!

Today's Cyonic AU-650x is the first power supply that we have seen from Cyonic. As this is the first time we have seen a product from Cyonic, we don't have much in the way of history to base our expectations on today. That said, the AU-650x is produced by Seasonic and we have seen a long list good products from them. So, Cyonic has at least picked an OEM that can delivery the goods for their first product through our review process. With nothing else to go on then, we must look to see what Cyonic says about this unit before moving on:

The ideal choice for office use, casual gaming, and Home Theater PCs (HTPC), this family of Cyonic power supply units is highly versatile thanks to its popular power range and compact size. With a depth of 140 millimeters, it sports a smaller footprint than most fully modular consumer power supplies on the market, fitting perfectly into your small HTPC case. Small but mighty, this unit can crank out up to 650 watts! Time to embrace air flow and say goodbye to chaos! Being fully modular, the AUx Series gives you complete freedom to customize the inside of your case and free us some space for ventilation. As a bonus, the Fluid Dynamic Bearing Fan together with the Cyonic Silence Guard guarantee silent operation, further enhancing the enjoyment of all kinds of computer media entertainment.

Moving on let’s see what we can expect when a user purchases the Cyonic AU-650x power supply in retail in terms of documentation, accessories, cable count, rail layout, output characteristics, and general build quality.
