NZXT HALE90 v2 1000W Power Supply Review
The new NZXT HALE90 v2 1000 watt computer power supply has more than a few marketed points that talk it up like; clean currents, rock steady performance, eccentric design, and infused design elements. All that aside, we will put it through our brutal testing suite and find out if it is worth your hard earned cash.
NZXT Corporation is a relative newcomer to the DIY enthusiast market having been incorporated in 2004. To date, the company is best known for its wide range of chassis that stretch from the simple and understated to the eye-poppingly garish. At the same time, NZXT has maintained and expanded an increasing line of other peripherals, input devices, and power supplies. Today, we are looking at our third power supply from NZXT and it comes from its newest line, the HALE90 v2 series. The specific unit we are looking at today is the 1000W model (NP-1GM-1000A), and it is produced in conjunction with partner FSP.
FSP Group is one of the few actual power supply manufacturers and can be found providing OEM services for a number of other brands at various times including OCZ, Zalman, AOpen, Antec, SilverStone, Super Talent, Sigma, NZXT, and many more. This wide distribution of power supplies by FSP is not surprising given that it has been in business since 1993 and is one of the top 10 producers of power supplies in the world. FSP is also regarded as a manufacturer of basic workhorse type power supplies that "just gets the job done," although some of its previous high powered computer power supplies have been plagued by power quality issues.
The NZXT HALE90 v2 1000W is just the third power supply we have seen from NZXT and it is the largest capacity we have seen among these units. Prior offerings that we have seen from NZXT have been a result of its collaboration with SuperFlower but today we see that the NZXT HALE90 v2 1000W is a product of its collaboration with FSP. While FSP has been known for making some very good units over the years, the results we have seen from a number of their units, particularly as these get increasingly more powerful, has been decided mixed. On top of that, the 1000W market is one where seemingly everyone has a high end product or two available, certainly this has something to do with the nice round number and psychological placement of it. Given the respectable results we saw from the first two NZXT units we saw (the HALE82 850W and the HALE90 750W), we do have high hopes that NZXT’s most powerful offering in our testing to date will be something to write home about, unlike some of the other 1000W options. Before moving on, let’s see what NZXT has to say about his unit:
