Kingwin Stryker STR500 Power Supply Review
The Kingwin Stryker 500W Power Supply is a mid-powered computer PSU built specifically for those enthusiasts looking for quality power. The big feature here is that this unit is fanless, that means zero moving parts. If you are looking for silent in the 500 watt and up range, this is a good start.
Today we have the opportunity to have a look at a power supply being branded by KWI Technology Inc., or better known to most readers as Kingwin. Kingwin has been in business since 1992 manufacturing mobile racks and general storage solutions. Today though we find Kingwin branding, and in some product categories developing, a number of different components and peripherals including cases, CPU coolers, liquid cooling systems, and power supplies in addition to their core business markets. Today’s Kingwin offering is from a new product line, the Stryker series. In particular, we will be reviewing the first, and as yet only, unit in the series the Stryker 500W (STR-500) which is developed in conjunction with SuperFlower once more.
SuperFlower Computer Inc is a name that may not be familiar to most of our US readers, but as a company SuperFlower has been designing and producing power supplies, and chassis, since 1991. In 2006, they expanded with the establishment of a new subsidiary factory, Jing Hua Co., Ltd, now handling their increased power supply production. While SuperFlower has not been a high profile OEM in the US, some of their products can be found branded by TTGI, MadDog Media, Kingwin, and occasionally SuperFlower themselves. One of the distinguishing points spearheaded by SuperFlower units was the inclusion of some of the first 140mm fans, and while normally not found as the OEM behind ultra high end brands SuperFlower has typically made good budget oriented offerings.
The Kingwin Stryker 500W is the 6th power supply we have seen from Kingwin and is coming in as our second 80Plus Platinum rated power supply right on the heals of the Kingwin LZP-550. This is also the smallest capacity Kingwin unit we have reviewed, and it is also the first fanless Kingwin unit we have reviewed as well as being just the second fanless unit we have reviewed overall the Seasonic X-400FL being the first). Given the performance of the recent LZP-550, this units pedigree and feature list seems to scream ultimate media center/quite cooling environment power supply if Kingwin can come through with another home run today. While that is what this unit seems to say, what does Kingwin actually say about this new unit?

As with the recent Lazer LZP-550, the webpage for the STR-500 just has a list of features and no real advertising or copy for the unit. Kingwin could probably put something flashy together here, but if this performs like the LZP-550 who really cares what Kingwin says about the unit anyway?! Moving on let’s see what we can expect when a user purchases the Kingwin STR-500 supply in retail in terms of documentation, accessories, cable count, rail layout, output characteristics, and general build quality.
