FBI Arrests DDoS Service Customer

Signing up for a DDoS service and using it for an attack is akin to putting yourself onto a criminal registry, but some people didn’t think this through. And this guy is trying to get a masters in computer scienceآ…

Sharma, who is a USC graduate, purchased DDoS firepower from Xtreme Stresser, an online DDoS-for-hire service. He used this service to attack Chatango and brought down the company's services on different occasions for a two-month period, between November 6, 2014 and January 20, 2015. Investigators estimate that total damages caused by his attacks at over $5,000. If found guilty, Sharma faces up to ten years in prison, up to three years of supervised release, and/or a fine. Sharma is now free on a $100,000 bail. As part of his bail release agreement, Sharma is banned from accessing certain sites such as HackForums and tools such as VPNs.
