NASA Releases Stunning Color Images of Pluto
The first pictures from New Horizons' flyby of Pluto came in today.
For Pluto, the biggest revelation is that the big heart is actually two different colors. Those colors (exaggerated for contrast) indicate different geologic, tectonic, or morphologic origins. And the rest of the visible world is a mosaic of patina. "Some regions are relatively ancient, and other places are very young and currently undergoing geologic evolution," said Jeff Moore, the New Horizons team scientist from NASA Ames who presented the images.
