Twitter Says Government Demands Up 40 Percent
Twitter's most recent biannual transparency report shows that government demands are up by forty percent. Not only that, Twitter says that it has complied with eighty percent of the demands made by U.S. officials.
Twitter said requests have increased in many countries, but warned that the US, Turkey, and Russia -- rarely lumped in the same category in any sense -- stand out "from the rest." In the US, there were 1,622 requests in the second-half of 2014, which Twitter said it complied with 80 percent of demands. Those demands increased by almost one-third, with an 8 percent increase in its compliance rate.
