Ballmer, Gates No Longer on Speaking Terms

Vanity Fair recently ran a long piece on the decaying friendship of former CEO Steve Ballmer and Microsoft founder Bill Gates. So, what would it take to break up decades long best friends? The short version consists of two words: Nokia and Vista.

The problems started right around 2001, when an apparent power struggle — Ballmer was the new CEO at the time, but Gates was still around — led them to a strained relationship.
