Bogus Chrome Offers Shadow Real Updates
Phishers and scammers are a clever bunch always looking for a way to exploit legitimate actions. Google Chrome updates are no exception to that rule with scammers using the Chrome update to lure users into a Botnet site and become infected with malware as the result. It’s a tried and true tactic that still has a high percentage success rate among unsuspecting users.
The Trojan, named google_chrome_update.exe, is designed to steal online banking credentials in order to make unauthorized wire transfers to the attackers' accounts. The malware is a member of the Zeus family, which is widely known for stealing bank account data, while also monitoring Internet activity to steal other personal data.
