Gaping Flaw in Microsoft's 'Do Not Track' System

Microsoft touted a ‘Do Not Track’ by default feature incorporated into Internet Explorer 10 earlier in the year, leaving many Internet advertisers more than just a little upset over the move. They were upset for nothing it seems, since the track mechanism turns out to be largely voluntary on the advertisers part. This could be one of the reasons we haven’t heard much from Explorer 10 lately.

Without cookies, advertising on the web is a largely random, untargeted affair—and advertisers won't tolerate it.
