Microsoft: Decision Stands on No IE9 for XP
The decision to omit Windows XP users from upgrading to the just released Internet Explorer 9 will stand. This comes as a result of Microsoft ending mainstream support for XP in 2009 and the end of extended support in 2014. The decision was made to move the versions of Windows forward, having existing users of XP to upgrade to the current version of Windows.
"We could have continued down the path we were on," said Gavin, again defending the decision to drop XP from the list of operating systems able to run IE9. "We could have added more features to IE, change the UI, blah, blah, blah. We could have made it work across XP, but that's not what's going to push the Web forward.
