Google Social Network in the Works?

Expectations were high today for Google to unveil a demo of a new social network during SXSW today, but the rumor was quashed by an unidentified representative from Google. Google Social Circles would be an upscaled version of Facebook according to informed sources.

Circles, which Kirkpatrick said has been created by noted social Web thinker Chris Messina and Picnik founder Jonathan Sposato, would also distinguish itself from other social networks by being friendly to Web standards and developers.
