As Jurors Go Online, Trials Go Off Track
Wait, is this article claiming that it is bad for jurors to tweet the details of a murder trial? What happened to the rights of Twitter users to know every detail about everything everywhere? What about transparency in our court system? I think it is obvious that the rights of bloggers, tweeters and Facebookers are being trampled here.
The explosion of blogging, tweeting and other online diversions has reached into U.S. jury boxes, in many cases raising serious questions about juror impartiality and the ability of judges to control their courtrooms. A Reuters Legal analysis found that jurors' forays on the Internet have resulted in dozens of mistrials, appeals and overturned verdicts in the last two years alone.
