Fiber Optic Capacity Hitting the Wall?

According to an article in the Science report, present day fiber optic cables could be reaching full capacity sometime in the not so distant future. It’s possible that bandwidth may in fact have a finite capacity, which only further research can say for sure.

"It's likely we're going to have to go right back to the fundamentals of the optics, the actual light pipes. And if you want to develop the next generation of cable, you want to be doing that 10 years in advance, not for tomorrow."
