European Antitrust Deal Barely Affects Browser Market

The antitrust case last year which ended with Microsoft being required to offer other web browsers on European versions of Windows has been largely ineffective. Most of the change in market share has been attributed to the growing popularity of Chrome, not the browser selection ballot.

"I’m sure that it is increasing pressure on Microsoft, which has been losing share anyway," said Aodhan Cullen, the chief executive of StatCounter, a research firm in Dublin that tracks browser use. "But it hasn’t caused a big upheaval in rankings."
