Sony Still Loses Money on Every PS3 They Sell

According to the latest figures from Sony, the company still loses money on every PS3 sold thanks to that recent $100 price drop. The flipside of the price cut is that PS3 sales are actually up by 44%. Sony posted its first quarterly profit in a year thanks to its decision to close 18% of its plants and eliminate 20,000 jobs.

Educated guesser of component prices iSuppli had deduced that Sony was finally eking out a little bit of profit on every PS3 Slim they sold, thanks to lower costs, but apparently, not the case! They're hoping to cut production costs by 15 percent by March 2011. Hey, at least PS3 sales were up 44 percent.
