NVIDIA Ion 2 Reportedly Lands Orders from Acer

DigiTimes, citing "sources" in the industry, claims that NVIDIA has landed Ion 2 orders from Acer. NVIDIA has declined to comment saying the company does not respond to hearsay.

Although the original Ion platform was a chipset with IGP, since Intel's Pine Trail-M for netbook and Pine Trail-D for nettop platforms shift northbridge functions (memory controller and IGP) onto the CPU, Nvidia's Ion 2 design for Intel platforms will resemble and act more like a discrete GPU, the sources noted. Nvidia will also maintain its plans to release a chipset to support VIA Technologies platforms.
