Books Being Replaced by E-Readers at US Prep School

A headmaster at Cushing Academy prep school in New England is leading the effort to replace all of the books in the library with 18 E-readers from Sony & Amazon, 3 large flat-screen TVs to project Internet data, several laptop-friendly study spaces, and a coffee shop. They’re going digital and causing a bit of an uproar while doing it. What do you think?

"When I look at books, I see an outdated technology, like scrolls before books,’’ said James Tracy, headmaster of Cushing and chief promoter of the bookless campus. "This isn’t ‘Fahrenheit 451’. We’re not discouraging students from reading. We see this as a natural way to shape emerging trends and optimize technology.’’
