Southwest to Roll Out WiFi Fleetwide in Q1 2010
If you’re wanting some Internet action while on a cheap flight, Southwest Airline’s announcement will pique your interest. Starting in Q1 2010, SWA is going to begin the roll out of WiFi with pricing to be determined based on flight distance and type of connecting device.
The service, in partnership with Row 44, has been in the testing stage for the past year; it provides roughly 30 Mbps of bandwidth to a plane via Ku band satellites (and can theoretically make your cell phone work, too!).
