Bomb-proof Trash Receptacles to Debut in London

London streets are about to look even weirder. On the horizon is a new bomb-proof trashcan that not only will store your rubbish, but will also sport an LCD screen to provide news and travel information. The problem with making something “X-proof” is that some people will view it as a challenge to defeat and an escalating bomb “field-test” isn’t a good idea on London’s crowded avenues.

Next year, however, hundreds of high-tech bomb-resistant bins are to be placed throughout the financial district of London, where an IRA bomb was detonated in 1993, killing one man and injuring more than 40 people. London is the first city to install the bins, which will also operate as recycling units.
