Dell Ships Renegade Quad SLI Beast
The Dell XPS 600 Renegade, which was showcased as the first system with NVIDIA’s Quad SLI technology, has finally launched.
System integrators, particularly the high end boutique builders, have informed me that when Dell first announced their Quad SLI technology back in January at CES that they were blindsided by the announcement. They were upset at NVIDIA for being left out of the loop. One wonders if pressure from SIs to open the technology up to everyone prompted NVIDIA’s recent announcement of Quad SLI availability and the consistent and widespread announcements by multiple integrators regarding Quad SLI system availability.
Most notable about the XPS Renegade PR edition is the inclusion of the Ageia PhysX physics processing chip. With GPU designers like NVIDIA throwing their hat into the physics processing arena, things are starting to heat up in this newly created market.
Dell sources tell us that less than 30 will be manufactured, and they expect to sell out TODAY by noon. Also, we are told that the FSB of the system is 1066Mhz and there are no memory tweaks for the enthusiast. Furthermore, we have no information on whose Ageia card is included in the system. The Quad SLI GPUs are clocked in between 7900GT and 7900GTX speeds. Systems will ship on or before April 20th. The system is priced at $9930.
One has to wonder how many Quad SLI systems are available from other builders, or for how long.
