[H]ardNews - Midnight BB Rumors
Apple In?
Apple boxes have started showing up at select Best Buy stores around the country as they are testing the markets for them. I am not a big Apple fan but there are plenty of computer users around that would be very happy with one of their machines. I have a feeling that Best Buy will be selling these Apple boxes like hotcakes. I even have a feeling a G5 will end up in my office sooner than later....but just for testing though, I would never actually use one.
Alienware Out?
It has also been reported to us that Alienware boxes are on the way out of Best Buy due to spotty parts supply and reliability issues. The rumor was even handed to us that Alienware was in breach of contract as well. I never really saw the average Best Buy customer being a Alienware type of person. Chalk all that up to rumor though, we will see what happens. Our call of course is save you some major greenbacks and build your own. You might not get the same cool case, but then again the doors seem to break off those things quite easily anyway.
Rhapsody - Not Bohemian:
In a couple of weeks we are likely to see Best Buy launch their own version of Apples iTunes that will be PC friendly. Rumor says that the branding will be called "Rhapsody". Apparently there are some Queen fans in BB marketing. Single songs are rumored to be around $0.79 with monthly membership fees for around $10 that allow so many downloads. I am glad to see Best Buy doing this and they will get some business from me for sure. They have won me over as a customer on a lot of items in the last year of so.
Brandon Sneed wrote in and let us know the error of our ways about the tunes story above. Seems as though this is an existing service that Best Buy will now be selling. He pointed us to Listen.com and showed us that Rhapsody is already up and running. He also commented that he was a subscriber and loved his service.
