Introduction

One of the most prevalent companies in the consumer power supply realm, and general enthusiast PC realm, is Antec. Antec is a company that has been kicking around the PC DIY market since 1986 and in that time frame has become one of the most widely known brand names. In addition to power supplies Antec has product lines that include cases for work and play, cooling solutions, lighting, and other accessories. Over the years Antec has used a number of OEM providers for its power supplies including HEC, CWT, FSP, Enhance, Seasonic, and recently Delta. Today, we will be looking at a member of the brand new EDGE line of power supplies the EDGE 750W (EDG750) made by Seasonic.

Seasonic is one of the older companies producing consumer power supplies having been founded in 1975 and entering the PC power supply production market in 1980. During that more than 30 years as a company Seasonic has cultivated lines of power supplies that are today some of the standard bearers for efficiency and quiet computing. This focus and Seasonic’s reputation for quality, has lead to a real explosion in production as Seasonic can be found providing OEM services on various model lines for Antec, Corsair, PC Power and Cooling, XFX, Cooler Master, and of course under its own Seasonic brand.

Livin' on the EDGE

Today's Antec EDGE 750W is the latest in a long line of power supplies that we have seen from Antec. It is also, interestingly, the second 750W 80 Plus Gold unit we have seen from them in just about as many months. While these two recent power supplies overlap in many ways initially on paper, one would assume that there are significant differences between these in order for Antec to have launched/maintained these very similar appearing products. As such, it will be interesting today to see how these units differ and to see which might be the most attractive to enthusiasts, not to mention how the new EDGE 750W compares to some of the other recent comparable 750W units we have seen. Before moving on to see how this unit performs though, let's see what Antec has to say about this unit and how they are going to pitch this product in its extensive lineup of power supplies:

The new Antec EDGE PSU series provides stable output voltages and efficient and reliable system performance. The fully modular power supplies are Haswell-ready, compatible with the new ATX12V 2.4 standard and they are covered with five years of warranty. The models EDGE 550, EDGE 650, EDG 750E and EDG-850 deliver 550 watts, 650 watts, 750 watts and 850 watts of continuous Power. All models are 80 PLUS Gold certified and achieve an efficiency of up to 92 percent. High-performance Japanese capacitors provide a stable DC output and safe regulations. Sufficient PCI Express port connectors and a 13.5cm fan with white LEDs make EDGE the ideal PSU for high-end gamers and enthusiasts.

Moving on let’s see what we can expect when a user purchases the Antec EDGE 750W power supply in retail in terms of documentation, accessories, cable count, rail layout, output characteristics, and general build quality.
