Introduction

SilverStoneTechnology is a company best known for its high quality cases but its product lines extend into other components such as cooling, power, fans, storage, and so on. As a company Silverstone has built up this impressive product repertoire in a very short time having been founded in 2003. Today, however we are interested in its power supplies which are comprised of the Strider Gold, Strider Plus, Strider Essential, Strider Gold Evolution, Nightjar, Zeus, Gemini, and Zeus model lines that range from 350W to 1500W DC output. Today, we are looking the only current member of SilverStone's Zeus series, the Zeus 1350W (SST-ZM1350) which comes from Seventeam.

Seventeam Electronics Company is a company that has flown under the consumer power supply radar for some time in the US even though they have been making power supplies for close to 20 years. This is for good reason as a quick search of its website shows a large number of server oriented offerings that would not be noticed by most enthusiast consumers. This product structuring has changed a bit over the last few years as we have seen a number of Seventeam based power supplies in the US consumer market from Ultra, SilverStone, Cooler Master, and Seventeam themselves.

Ruler of the Olympians?

The SilverStone ZM1350 is the first power supply we have seen from SilverStone’s Zeus line to date. Previous SilverStone units we have reviewed have generally been good products but, to date, we have only seen one other SilverStone power supply that was larger 1000 watts in capacity. That other power supply (the Strider ST1500) was good for its time, but a single data point does not a trend make. So, while we have seen some truly good lower powered units from SilverStone, the 1000W+ segment is one where we still have a keen interest in seeing what SilverStone can do. Before moving on, let’s see what SilverStone has to say about this Zeus unit:

After a four year hiatus, SilverStone’s top of the line power supply series, Zeus, has finally returned. The all new Zeus ZM1350 retains excellent characteristics of its predecessors with continuous output of 1350W (1500W peak) rated for 24/7 operating at 50°C, ±1% regulation for exceptional stability, and careful selection of premium industrial grade components. Other aspects such as efficiency, modular cabling compatible with other SilverStone PSUs, and adjustable switches for multi/single rail, voltage tweak, and fan control are vastly improved to make this the most thought-after power supply for elites among IT professionals, PC power users, and overclockers.

Moving on let’s see what we can expect when a user purchases the SilverStone Zeus 1350W at retail in terms of documentation, accessories, cable count, rail layout, output characteristics, and general build quality.
