Raidmax RX-1000AE 1000W Power Supply Review

Raidmax touts its new RX-1000AE as being a PSU that is "environmentally friendly." Given the fact that it boasts an 80 Plus Gold Certified rating, it is poised to supply us with some of the best efficiency levels we have ever seen out of PSU, much less one that hits the 1 kilowatt mark.

Introduction

Raidmax Technology CO., LTD (Raidtronics) is the "sister" brand of Sigma and is a division of Raidcom Technologies. As a company, Raidcom Technologies has been around for some time now as it was founded in 2000 and is most familiar to users because of the cases and other accessories they produce. However, the Raidmax brand has carried power supply offerings for some time from various OEM’s but to date all of the products we have reviewed from Raidcom Technologies have been of the Sigma variety. Today though, we have up the Raidmax branded RX-1000AE which is sourced from a familiar OEM to Raidcom Technologies (as they served as the supplier for the Sigma Shark we reviewed previously); Andyson.

Andyson is a company that end users may or may not be familiar with as they do not have a retail presence in North America but they have provided the basis for a number of power supplies from Hiper, Sunbeamtech, Sigma, BFG, and others. Most notably, Ultra has used Andyson for a number of their power supplies including members of their X-Pro line of branded power supplies (X-Pro 600w EE), the X3 series (X3 600W, X3 1000W and X3 1600W), and X4 (X4 850W and X4 1050W) so we have become somewhat familiar with their products.

Raiders of the Chassis

The Raidmax RX-1000AE is technically the first power supply we have seen from Raidmax, but we have seen two other units from Raidmax’ "sister" brand Sigma and those two units were not exactly award winning. With the RX-1000AE however, perhaps Raidmax has moved in a better direction as they are once more using Andyson for this unit and the last Andyson unit from the Raidcom family of brands that we saw, the Sigma Shark, at least passed testing. The RX-1000AE is also part of Raidmax’ new flagship line of power supplies and not a more value oriented unit so certainly they will be trying to put their best foot forward today. Unfortunately, the product page for the RX-1000AE does not list much in the way of advertising or product placement for the unit but rather just lists a bunch of bullet points:

- Modularized Cable design for easy cable management and improved airflow inside the case.

- Environmental friendly technology reduces the loss of electricity and save your money on facility bill and High Efficiency.

- ATX 12V EPS12V: Supports ATX 12V2.3 version and EPS12V 2.92 version.

- Active PFC, Quad+12v Rails. Design supports all HIGH-END Multi-Core GPU graphic cards.

- Optimized Silent Design 135 MM Fan maximizes the airflow and minimizes the noise.

- PCI-E Dedicated PCI-Express VGA Connector for high performance interface VGA Card Extended Power.

- High compatibility. (3.3v, 5v, 12v, with standby design)

- Industrial grade protection circuitry Prevents damage resulting from SCP, OCP, OVP, UVP, OPP.

As such, let’s move on and see what we can expect when a user purchases the Raidmax RX-1000AE power supply in retail in terms of documentation, accessories, cable count, rail layout, output characteristics, and general build quality.
