BFG Tech has done a very good job at commanding respect in the computer power supply market in the last year. It has stepped up its game and along with that it is now entering the tremendously demanding 1 kilowatt PSU market. 1000 watts of power is not easy to deliver while doing a good job of it.
BFG Technologies is a well known graphics card supplier whose products have been a premium choice of computer gamers and hardware enthusiasts for several years. Today, however, a quick check of BFG’s website shows that the days of simply supplying high end video solutions are a thing of the past and it is spreading out into a number of areas including branding computer power supply units, or PSUs. BFG’s power supplies have to date typically been built by the Taiwanese company Topower or more distantly in the past ATNG but with the acquisition of some new talent BFG has seriously revamped the power supply business. In addition to launching a new power supply website, BFG has also stepped up to the plate with a serious enthusiast level power supply in the ES-800, great value mid range LS550/680 units, and great modular mid range units the MX550/680. Today we have the opportunity to look at a brand new power supply product from BFG the (BFGR1000WEXPSU) that comes from the same OEM responsible for BFG ES-800, Andyson.
Andyson is a company that end users may or may not be familiar with as they have provided the basis for a number of Hiper power supplies, Sunbeamtech power supplies, BFG, and probably at this point most famously Ultra. Ultra has used Andyson to produce some spectacular products including to date the single highest DC output power supply for a standard PC available in North America the Ultra X3 1600w. Today’s Andyson built offering comes in at just 1000W but builds on the revolutionary product design that was the BFG ES-800.

The BFG EX-1000 is the first unit to land in our hands from BFG’s new EX line. The new EX line of power supplies builds upon the ground breaking design of the ES line BFG introduced some time ago with the ES-800. However, the EX line as we find it today bumps up the power output range of these Frequency Conversion technology units to 1000W and 1200W while also making them modular. With that in mind what does BFG have to say about the new BFG EX series?
BFG Tech has taken a whole new approach to computer power supplies with the EX Series. Most power supplies are inefficient at lower loads, making it difficult to plan for future expansion while maintaining a green initiative. By using Frequency Conversion technology, the EX power supply can actually emulate virtually any size power supply and therefore be at least 80% efficient, even with loads as low as 10% of the unit\'s maximum capability. EX power supplies have the lowest minimum load requirements and the best +5VSB efficiency on the market. BFG Tech uses all Japanese capacitors for longer life and gold-plated pins for improved conductivity.
As we see here the marketing information for the BFG EX-1000, BFG puts the new EX units in much the same role as the older ES-800 but at higher capacity and with some new features. So let's move on to see what we have to look forward to when we purchase the BFG EX-1000 in terms of documentation, accessories, cable count, rail layout, output characteristics, and general build quality.
