Kingwin ABT-1220MA1S Mach 1 Power Supply

Kingwin has come to us with its power supplies before, and while that 800w unit did OK, it was not exactly anything we would consider an award winner. Today we have another Kingwin weighing in at a huge ~1200 watts. Can you say "Torture Test at 45C and 960 watts?” Fire extinguisher. Check! Let's get it on.

Introduction

Today we have the opportunity to have a look at a power supply being branded by KWI Technology Inc., or better known to most readers as Kingwin. Kingwin has been in business since 1992 manufacturing mobile racks and general storage solutions. Today though we find Kingwin branding, and in some product categories developing, a number of different components and peripherals including cases, CPU coolers, liquid cooling systems, and power supplies in addition to their core business markets. Today, we will be looking at Kingwin’s new top of the line power supply offerings the from the Mach 1 series the ABT-1220MA1S which is developed in conjunction with SuperFlower.

SuperFlower Computer Inc is a name that may not be familiar to most of our US readers, but as a company SuperFlower has been designing and producing power supplies, and chassis, since 1991. In 2006, they expanded with the establishment of a new subsidiary factory, Jing Hua Co., Ltd, now handling their increased power supply production. While SuperFlower has not been a high profile OEM in the US, it has been that some of their products can be found branded by TTGI, MadDog Media, Kingwin, and occasionally SuperFlower themselves. One of the distinguishing points spearheaded by SuperFlower units was the inclusion of some of the first 140mm fans, and while normally not found as the OEM behind ultra high end brands SuperFlower has typically made good budget oriented offerings, with the 1200w model we see here today being the highest capacity seen to date.

Faster, Higher, Better?

Previously we have reviewed a member of the Mach 1 family from Kingwin in the ABT-800MA1S. That unit did survive testing but did so with just acceptable results which, in such a competitive field, resulted in a not quite award winning performance. Today, Kingwin comes back to the table with a new entrant in the Mach 1 series that is from the same OEM to try and fly faster and higher. The real question is has the Mach 1 undergone an overhaul? Or just an engine upgrade? Let’s start by seeing what Kingwin has to say about their new flagship product:

Ultimate performance w/ 1220 Watts of Mach 1 Power, air craft style modular LED connectors, SATA connectors, 14 CM LED fan, intelligent auto fan speed control, perform up a notch and satisfy the hunger of your pc with Mach 1 Power ABT-1220MA1S.

Interestingly, this is the exact same copy as was written for the ABT-800MA1S we reviewed some time ago. Let’s hope that this is the extent of the similarities as while not a failing unit, the previous Mach 1 did not exactly soar with the eagles. Moving on let’s see what we can expect when a user purchases the Kingwin ABT-1220MA1S supply in retail in terms of documentation, accessories, cable count, rail layout, output characteristics, and general build quality.
