Thermaltake Purepower RX 600W

We move from Thermaltake's Toughpower to its line branded the "Purepower." No doubt that when you are buying a power supply for your upgrade or new build you want "pure power" and enough of it to handle today's power hungry CPUs and GPUs.

Introduction

Today Thermaltake Technology Company is back for a third time through our Power Supply testing program with their Purepower RX 600W. As a company Thermaltake has a rather short history being founded in just 1999, but in that short time they have grown rapidly. While Thermaltake's primary focus has been on thermal solutions, they have for some time now maintained a group of product lines dedicated to power supplies. The early power supplies in these lines were often manufactured by Sirtec, but with the launch of the Toughpower line and its parallel line the Purepower RX Thermaltake took their power supply business in a new, and quite frankly better, direction. So today we are again looking at a product from Thermaltake's partnership with Channel Well Technology in the Purepower RX 600W (W0144RU).

Channel Well Technology (CWT) was founded and began manufacturing power supplies in 1993. Since 1993 Channel Well Technology products have shown up under various guises including Antec, Xclio, 2theMax, CWT, Thermaltake, and now Corsair. While most familiar to our US users from when they used to provide OEM services for Antec, CWT is one of the more complete OEM manufacturers as they have a fairly high level of vertical integration providing transformers all the way up to their well designed independently regulated SMPS. Recently however, CWT has begun stretching out and is providing OEM services for a number of brands as today’s unit demonstrates.

Pure as the Electric Snow

With the Purepower RX 600W coming in at 600 watts it certainly is running in the mainstream as far as total DC capacity goes in this day and very close to the Toughpower QFan 650w we recently reviewed. So the question becomes, in an area with so many options, even from Thermaltake themselves, how does Thermaltake differentiate this product?

Purepower series power supply offers exceptional performance, power efficiency and thermal efficiency for users looking to build their next gaming or workstation PC. Purpower(sic) raises the bar for performance and mainstream power supply for high quality power factor correction (0.99+) and complete system protection. Updated with the most current power conversion technology, Purepower delivers clean and stable power from each of dedicated rails with 80%+ efficiency that results in lower power loss and lower heat build-up to reduce overall noise output. Not to mention, the improved power efficiency will also decrease electricity usage to cut-down on electricity bill and decrease the impact electronic(sic) components have on the environment(sic).

From what we find in the Thermaltake power supply landing page it seems that the Purepower series is supposed to be the solution for performance and mainstream. Beyond that the Purepower RX series is supposed to help cut down on your power bill and save the environment which certainly sounds like a win-win to us. Let's move on to see what we have to look forward to when we purchase the Thermaltake Purepower RX 600W in terms of documentation, accessories, cable count, rail layout, output characteristics, and general build quality.
