Enermax MODU82+ 625w

Enermax is a name that carries a lot of weight with enthusiasts and the company is stepping out with a new mid-wattage PSU that delivers 625 watts plus a whole lot of marketing claims. But what about good clean power? We find out.

Introduction

Enermax Technology Corporation is a company that is well known in the world of power supplies and general computing alike. Founded in 1990 Enermax has made a name for themselves by providing solid performing power supplies, among other computer components and accessories. Enermax's current lines of power supplies encompass a wide range of products targeted at various market segments including the Liberty, Noisetaker, Infiniti, FMA II DXX, Galaxy, Galaxy DXX, MODU82+, and PRO82+ series.

In addition to being a retail presence with their Enermax brand power supplies, Enermax Technology Corporation appears to be one of the few real OEM providers of power supplies. Their power supplies however, have only rarely shown up under other labels including Grow Up Japan. For the most part Enermax appears to be a factory to retail presence with their own discreet lines of power supplies including today’s MODU82+ 625w (EMD625AWT).

Previously we have looked at two other Enermax power supplies, the Galaxy DXX 1000w, and the Infiniti 720w, both of which have come in power output levels higher than those covered by the new MODU82+ line that currently peaks at 625w. Quite often lower power levels are treated almost as an after thought with a lot of power supply brands selling lesser products in this range. With that in mind how does Enermax see this new MODU82+ line fitting into this realm?

MODU82+ has been raising all the standards of power and this is its flagship model: ATX12V v2.3 ready! for the newest CPU and MB. The world’s first 82PLUS ready! 625W PSU powering 24/7 @ 40¢XC ready! systems up to DUAL CPU, QUAD CORE, QUAD GPU, +15 Drives . Featuring not only world record four 6+2P (8P) PCI-E connectors, but FUTURE ready! with two revolutionary 12P sockets for possibly upcoming new CPU & GPU connectors and SpeedGuard, the world’s most advanced fan control.

While much of the marketing of this unit sounds great and reminiscent of previous Enermax power supplies we have reviewed we have to wonder, is the MODU82+ another example of shoveling a cheap low quality product out the door for the mid to lower end? Or is Enermax looking to really place a product line in this range that is of equal quality to its bigger and flashier lines?

Let's move on to see what we have to look forward to when we purchase the Enermax MODU82+ 625w in terms of documentation, accessories, cable count, rail layout, output characteristics, and general build quality.
