[H]ard|OCP 1500 Q2-05
We take $1500, pull out all the stops, and put together two systems. First, we build a full system for those needing a complete replacement, and second, we offer an upgrade system for those with a donor. Let’s see how our two distinctly different guides turned out.
Full System: Case & Power Supply
Case

Cases from CHENMING have been the exoskeleton of many systems built by enthusiasts throughout the years. A company since 1976 and offering computer components since 1985, CHENMING has built a solid reputation in the case manufacturing world. Their cases have also found their way to market under other case manufacturing names as OEM products.
There are many cases that fit the needs of our Full System Guide in both quality and price-point; however, this case from CHENMING offers a solid build with an easy-to-use layout and includes plenty of growth potential. Made from lightweight and heat dissipating aluminum, this case satisfies two key practical factors in deciding what case to buy.

Power Supply

An important aspect of any solid system is the power supply. Components ranging from the CPU to the video card are all depending on more and more power to get the job done. We’ve selected a 550W unit from Antec. This is a quiet, cool product that also includes dual 12V power rails to support any current and future needs. This unit is a solid performer and we’ve never had any issue with Antec products. With current prices for PSUs ranging from the inexpensive $50 to the exorbitant $300, this model is a bargain, especially given its extremely high quality, at only $89.
