FarCry 64-bit
We’ve got the new 64-bit patch for FarCry and we take it for a spin in WinXP Pro x64 Edition on an AMD Athlon64 CPU. Read inside to find out what the AMD Athlon64 CPU can do when running a 64-bit game.
Test System Setup:
Our test system setup was exactly the same as we had in our Windows XP Pro x64 Gaming Comparison here. We are using the ATI RADEON X850 XT-PE and NVIDIA GeForce 6800 Ultra with the latest drivers available for both 32-bit Windows and 64-bit Windows. The hardware platform is an ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe with an AMD Athlon64 FX-55 and 1GB of RAM.
Gameplay Evaluation:
The goal of this article is to examine what gameplay benefits this new patch brings in terms of performance and image quality. We will report the highest playable quality settings for each version of the game and explain the gameplay that we experienced with plenty of screenshots.
Take note that we encountered a problem with FRAPS, which is the benchmark tool that we rely on to give us the frame rate every second. At this time, FRAPS does not output the detailed statistics TXT files we need that we make our graphs from with 64-bit games. Therefore, we cannot show you a graphed amount of gameplay showing frame rate over time. We can however show you the minimum, maximum, and average frame rates and relate to you what kind of experience we had playing the game. The FRAPS team is aware of the problem and is currently working on a fix for it.
