dBpowerAMP Music Converter
The extra 200MHz that the FX-53 is packing is easily seen in our MP3 coding. The Pentium 4's superior clock rate is becoming less and less evident, but Intel still holds a win in this category, but by only two seconds. Hardly a deal breaker or a flagship price maker.
DVD2AVI DivX encoder w/ codec 5.1.1
The AthlonFX-53 shines brightly encoding our DivX movies using the DVD2AVI front end, turning in the fastest score we have ever seen. It took 46 minutes to encode the entire movie 8MM. I remember not too long ago when 2 hours was a stellar score.
XMPEG DivX encoder w/ codec 5.1.1
We have included an alternative DivX Encoding Benchmark, using another widely used front end program, but as you can see, picking the program to match the talents of your CPU can have an impact. The Pentium 4's performance here is quite great over the AMD solutions across the board.
Please note that this benchmark is taken only encoding 10,000 frames of the 8MM movie.
