ATi Radeon 9700 Pro Benchmarks

We show what the 9700 Pro is capable of on a Pentium 4 2.53GHz, an AMD 2.5GHz, an AMD 1.5GHz and throw in the Ti4600 for competition and the Parhelia just for fun.

3DMark In-depth:

While the 3DMark benchmark is certainly useful, there is data generated by it that we don't often see. We have taken that data from the full benchmarks of a 9700 Pro and directly compared them to what was the current performance crown holder...the GeForce4 Ti4600.

We see that both cards are CPU limited in more than one benchmark. Then again we also see the 9700 Pro take a very sizeable lead in some of the tests. I think what is going to be most important to folks buying a Radeon 9700 Pro is probably best represented by four benchmarks in our table. Nature, Vertex Shader, Pixel Shader, and Adv Pixel Shader numbers are best going to show us what the 9700 is capable of with tomorrow's games. The 9700 Pro leads the Ti4600 in all the categories we see as important. Now how bout with some AA and AF turned on? Remember that the Ti 4600 does not support AF in D3D applications but we will turn it on in the 9700.

With the 4XAA implemented we see the ATi Radeon 9700 Pro nearly double the Ti 4600 scores that we see as important. The trend continues through the rest of the benchmarks as the resolution is raised.

The only benchmark portion that the Ti 4600 does ever win above is the Point Sprites and I don't really see that becoming a big issue in any new games to come.

Now onto the good stuff....
