Microsoft is killing its Kin after just a few short weeks? Wow. That was fast.

"We have made the decision to focus on our Windows Phone 7 launch and we will not ship KIN in Europe this fall as planned. Additionally, we are integrating our KIN team with the Windows Phone 7 team, incorporating valuable ideas and technologies from KIN into future Windows Phone releases. [H] reader Darren E. sent us a link to this video presentation from Intel Labs demonstrating smart computing islands on everyday surfaces. I could definitely see this tech in smart homes in the very near future.

Tabletop computing: the future user experience, according to Intel Labs, uses projected displays on everyday household surfaces like kitchen countertops to create interactive "islands". A user could have a movie playing while making dinner or search and display a recipe right there on the counter.

Openness To Decide Whether ‘Google Me’ Is Genius or Garbage

Hey everybody, let’s all speculate on an unconfirmed rumor about Google’s answer to Facebook. C’mon, it’ll be fun! I like how the article asks "genius or garbage" about something that doesn’t even exist yet.

Speculation about the service stems from a single deleted tweet by Digg CEO Kevin Rose, in which he said there was a "huge rumor" that Google was planning a Facebook competitor called "Google Me." Google would not confirm to Wired.com that it is working on a new social network, and even if it is, Google Me may not be the title, in part because it’s already a song and a movie.

Cisco Launches an Android Powered Tablet

Cisco has just announced the Android powered Cius tablet. While I don’t see this as an "iPad killer," the Cius has HD video, HD audio, 802.11A/B/G/N Wi-Fi, 3G/4G and Bluetooth 3.0 and Android for an OS, so it doesn’t look too shabby. Thanks to Cerulean for the link.

Suit Over Faulty Computers Highlights Dell’s Decline

Just when you think a lawsuit has gone totally stale, recently unsealed documents uncover a bunch of really interesting stuff. It would seems that Dell not only new they were selling faulty computers back in 2003 - 2005, they tried covering it up as they continued to sell them. Thanks to valve1138 for the heads up.

Documents recently unsealed in a three-year-old lawsuit against Dell show that the company’s employees were actually aware that the computers were likely to break. Still, the employees tried to play down the problem to customers and allowed customers to rely on trouble-prone machines, putting their businesses at risk.

An iPhone Wish List Looks Like an Android Feature List

Now this has to be a tad bit embarrassing. A recent survey found that the top four things iPhone customers really want…are already available on Android phones.

The survey, conducted by interactive research firm Vision Critical, lists a choice of wireless network (39 percent) as the number one thing that smartphone buyers in the U.S. would most like to have in the Apple iPhone. Android devices, of course, are available across multiple wireless carriers while the iPhone can only be used (without jailbreaking) on AT&T in the U.S.
