eBay Wants You To Sell More Stuff

According to this report, eBay is trying to find ways to get people to sell more stuff on its site. The latest gimmick is to do away with listing fees (for up to 100 items a month), instead opting for a percentage when the item sells.

EBay Inc. told sellers Tuesday that starting March 30 they will be able to post up to 100 items for auction every 30 days without paying fees to list them. The items must have a starting bid of less than $1, and when they sell eBay will take 9 percent of the final price or $50, whichever is less.

Microsoft Points Draw Class Action Suit

An attorney from Philadelphia has filed a class action lawsuit over Microsoft Points. Yes, you read that correctly…Microsoft Points. Huh?!?

Microsoft "engaged in a scheme to unjustly enrich itself through their fraudulent handling" of his account, Lassoff charged in papers filed earlier this week in U.S. District Court for Eastern Pennsylvania. But Lassoff claimed he and at least "hundreds" of other Xbox Live users have been overcharged. "Microsoft breached that contract by collecting revenues for digital goods and services which were not provided," Lassoff said in his lawsuit.

Google Toolbar Violates Privacy Policy

Some guy says that Google Toolbar still tracks your browsing habits even after being disabled. eek!

In this article, I provide evidence calling into question the ability of users to disable Google Toolbar transmissions. I begin by reviewing the contents of Google's "Enhanced Features" transmissions. I then offer screenshot and video proof showing that even when users specifically instruct that the Google Toolbar be "disable[d]", and even when the Google Toolbar seems to be disabled (e.g., because it disappears from view), Google Toolbar continues tracking users’ browsing.

Gates Weighs in on Google-China Spat

It seems as though even Bill Gates has something to say about this whole Google vs. China thing. Microsoft's founder has a rather interesting take on the whole situation, calling the attack on Google a "complex issue."

"The role of the Internet in every country has been very positive, letting people speak out in new ways," he said. "And fortunately the Chinese efforts to censor the Internet have been very limited. You know, it is easy to go around it."

RIAA In Pickle Over Jammie Thomas Ruling

It is fun to watch the RIAA run around like chickens with their heads cut off. You just know they want to challenge last week’s ruling but they don’t want to look any worse than they already do.

Davis has given the music industry seven days to decide whether to challenge his decision and schedule a trial on the damages. To figure out how to proceed, RIAA leaders and lawyers huddled on Monday, according to my music industry sources. An RIAA spokesman declined to comment.

ASUS EAH5750 Formula Video Card

The subject of today’s video card evaluation is the ASUS EAH5750 Formula featuring 1GB of GDDR5 and a custom cooler that claims to be 13% cooler than stock cooling. How does the EAH5750 stack up? Read the complete evaluation for all the details.

News Image

The facts are the ASUS EAH5750 Formula is currently shipping for $139. This might have been worth it if it proved to provide some kind of advantage, however, it did not. As it stands, the ASUS EAH5750 Formula offers nothing compelling for gamers compared to a generic ATI Radeon HD 5750.

Sun CEO Set to Resign

Jonathan Schwartz, pony-tailed CEO of Sun, is supposedly resigning from the company very soon. Don’t feel bad for Schwartz though, according to the report he will walk away from Sun with a severance package worth over $17M.

When he was appointed CEO in April 2006, Schwartz was charged with restoring Sun to its glory days. Sadly, he was unable to do it. And while he came up with some inventive strategies--buying MySQL, open-sourcing Java, and Solaris--none were of much benefit to Sun financially. So now, with the former Silicon Valley icon about to become another acquisition notch in Oracle's belt, Schwartz is leaving.
