Newscaster Using A Wiimote

One of Engadget’s readers noticed that a newscaster at KHOU in Houston actually uses a Wiimote during her broadcasts. Pretty neat to see that someone at the station is techie enough to mod the controller to work with her newscast.

AMD Not Supporting DX9 ONLY Cards in Win7?

According to AMDfs Catalyst 9.8 driver page, AMD has moved several DX9 only capable video cards into legacy status. The list of video cards now in a legacy support structure are noted on that page. These now legacy video cards will no longer receive driver updates in Windows 7. However, you can still use Vista drivers in Windows 7, of which the latest is Catalyst 9.8. This at least allows you to run them just fine under Windows 7, you just wonft see any more driver updates for them officially. This only affects the video cards listed on that page, and does not affect any DX10 and DX11 generation video cards. Share your thoughts on this move.

Google Accused of 'Malicious Revenge' in China

Despite all the effort the Google has put into getting on China’s good side, they sure seem to be having hard time over there. Seriously, if it isn’t one thing, it is another. It is almost like they don’t want Google over there…hmmmm.

The Google notice, which said the books section of the People's Daily site could contain malware, appeared last week and prevented some visits to the Web page because its link redirected to a Google warning, according to a local media report also posted by the People's Daily. A site representative was cited in the report as blaming "malicious revenge from Google" and saying the paper would take actions against such "vile behavior" by the company. The paper would not rule out legal action, the representative was cited as saying.

EFF Fights Censorship with Takedown Hall of Shame

The Electronic Frontier Foundation has posted what it calls the Takedown Hall of Shame, a website dedicated to exposing corporations that abuse copyright claims to stifle free speech.

"Free speech in the 21st century often depends on incorporating video clips and other content from various sources," explained EFF Senior Staff Attorney and Kahle Promise Fellow Corynne McSherry. "It's what The Daily Show with Jon Stewart does every night. This is 'fair use' of copyrighted or trademarked material and protected under U.S. law. But that hasn't stopped thin-skinned corporations and others from abusing the legal system to get these new works removed from the Internet. We wanted to document this censorship for all to see."
