10 Rock Star Tech Execs You've Never Heard Of

I’m not sure how you can be a "rock star tech exec" if no one has ever heard of you but the Silicon Alley Insider made a list of 10 executives that apparently fit that description.

You know the names Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg, and Bill Gates -- the giants behind Apple, Facebook, and Microsoft. But at those companies and others, there's a whole class of executives kicking rear without due recognition.

Professor: Kindle is a "Poor Excuse of an Academic Tool"

It doesn’t look like everyone at Princeton University is happy with the Kindle. At last one professor says that the device is a "poor excuse of an academic tool."

"I hate to sound like a Luddite, but this technology is a poor excuse of an academic tool," said Aaron Horvath ’10, a student in Civil Society and Public Policy. "It’s clunky, slow and a real pain to operate." Horvath said that using the Kindle has required completely changing the way he completes his coursework.

AT&T Calls Google a Hypocrite on Net Neutrality

AT&T is accusing Google of being a hypocrite when it comes to net neutrality. Google responded by saying "thems is fighting werds!" And so starts the first big net neutrality feud (cue banjos).

The carrier has written a letter to the Federal Communications Commission claiming that Google has violated the agency's Net neutrality principles, which Google has long supported. Google defended its position in a blog post written by Richard Whitt, Google's main lobbyist and telecommunications lawyer in Washington, that basically said AT&T is comparing apples and oranges.

EU to MP3 Makers: Turn Down the Volume

Having solved world hunger, created world peace and defeated evil corporations around the globe, the EU has turned its all-powerful gaze towards rogue MP3 players. Thanks EU! The world is safe once again!

"It can take years for the hearing damage to show, and then it is simply too late," Kuneva said in a statement. "These standards make small technical changes to players so that by default, normal use is safe. "If consumers chose to over-ride the default settings they can, but there will be clear warnings so they know the risks they are taking."

Cowboy’s Giant Screen Sets World Record

The punt-blocking giant screen TV in the top of the Cowboy’s football stadium has set the record for the world’s largest video display. World record holder or not, all I want to do is play video games on it like this guy did.

The world's first four-sided, center-hung, high-definition video display in a stadium consists of four Diamond Vision(R) LED video screens, with the two main sideline displays measuring 72 feet high by 160 feet wide, and two Diamond Vision(R) end-zone displays measuring 29 feet high by 51 feet wide. Weighing 600 tons, the screens are suspended 90 feet directly over the center of the playing surface and stretch from nearly one 20-yard line to the other.

Endangered Gorillas Get Facebook Page

It would seem to be okay for endangered animals to have Facebook pages but it is totally uncool to use your Facebook page to repent sins. What if you were an endangered gorilla that needed to repent? Is there a rule book out there for this stuff?

The Wildlife Authority is hoping that fans will befriend a gorilla on Facebook or MySpace or follow it on Twitter in return for a minimum donation of $1. The money will be used to hire extra rangers to protect the gorillas and safeguard their habitat.

According to Apple, there have been more than 2 billion downloads from the App store over the last year. That is 40 apps per iPhone / Touch owner. Rather impressive when you think about it.

"The rate of App Store downloads continues to accelerate with users downloading a staggering two billion apps in just over a year, including more than half a billion apps this quarter alone," Apple CEO Steve Jobs said in a statement. "The App Store has reinvented what you can do with a mobile handheld device, and our users are clearly loving it."

IRS Scam World's Biggest E-mail Virus Problem

Okay, I can see falling for the ol’ "overthrown dictator wants to give you millions" or the infamous "your e-mail address has won the lottery" scams but what kinda dork is going to believe the IRS is e-mailing them?

The spam campaign, entering its third week now, is showing no signs of slowing down, according to Gary Warner, director of research in computer forensics with the University of Alabama at Birmingham. This one campaign accounts for about 10 percent of the spam e-mail that his group is presently tracking, he said. "This is the most prominent spam-delivered virus in the world right now," he said.

Stupid Criminal of the Day

If you are on the top of the "most wanted" list in Florida, you are safe from being captured by the police…unless you shoplift video games. Not only is this guy our stupid criminal of the day, the article also provides the quote of the day:

"If you got arrested tomorrow, you could say 'Wilma Flintstone,' and we'd book you under that name," Velez said.
