Facebook wants its users to vote on the new proposed terms of service. It’s simple, you have one of two choices; the new TOS (based on user feedback) or the existing one (which isn’t).
You will have two options on the ballot, as shown below: 1) the new Facebook Principles and Statement of Rights and Responsibilities (SRR), which incorporate feedback from users and experts received during the 30-day comment period, or 2) the current Terms of Use, which were developed by Facebook and did not go through an outside comment period.
This just in…the defendants in the Pirate Bay case have been found guilty and ordered to serve 1 year in jail and pay fines totaling $3.6M. Thanks to Mark M. and Thad S. for the heads up.
The crime has been committed in a commercial and organized form" - Judge Tomas Norström.
The video game industry has, up until now, maintained strong sales even though the economy is in the dumper. The official numbers for March show that overall sales in the industry are down and, aside from the Xbox 360, all the major consoles have sold fewer units compared to last year.
Overall sales were also down 2.7 percent from February's $1.47 billion, and each of the six hardware platforms NPD tracks--Sony's PlayStation 3, PS2 and PSP, Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Nintendo's Wii and DS--had lower sales in March than in February. The PS3 and Wii led the drops, with 21.0 percent and 20.2 percent lower sales, respectively.
Microsoft Corp. is highlighting 15 teams of parents and teens who have taken control of their household media use and shared their approach in Microsoft’s Get Game Smart Video Contest. As a first step in selecting its first Get Game Smart Ambassadors, Microsoft asked parents and teens to team up and create a brief video spotlighting their family’s approach to a responsible digital lifestyle, including rules related to video gaming. Finalists were chosen by a diverse group of judges based on their video’s creativity, concept, information and overall presentation. Now they will compete in a popular vote for prizes and a chance to contribute to a new industry forum for dialogue about video gaming safety with Microsoft, and other influential voices, as Get Game Smart Ambassadors. Viewers can visit http://www.getgamesmart.com now to vote for their favorite video.
It seems all the cuts Google has made lately have paid off, the company still managed to turn a profit even though it experienced the slowest revenue growth since going public five years ago.
"No company is recession-proof," Google Chief Executive Eric Schmidt told analysts in a conference call. "Google is absolutely feeling the impact." Schmidt and other Google executives repeatedly emphasized that the global economy remains in "uncharted territory."

We just got word from the Harvard Law team that the First Circuit Court has blocked the requested webcast in the case of the Recording Industry Association of America vs. Joel Tenenbaum (PDF). As always, thanks to Debbie Rosenbaum for keeping us in the loop.
SELYA, Circuit Judge. This mandamus proceeding requires us to address a question of first impression: does a federal district judge have the authority to permit gavel-to-gavel webcasting of a hearing in a civil case? Footnote The district court thought that it had that authority. Capitol Records, Inc. v. Alaujan, 593 F. Supp. 2d 319, 324-25 (D. Mass. 2009). After careful consideration, we hold that a local rule, applicable in this case, when read in conjunction with an announced policy of the Judicial Conference of the United States and a resolution of the First Circuit Judicial Council, precludes such an action. Accordingly, we forbid enforcement of the challenged order and remand for proceedings consistent with this opinion.
