Sony Chief Takes Over Company’s Presidency

Sony’s CEO, Howard Stringer, has recently added the role of President to his job description after Ryoji Chubachi stepped down. The company is also reorganizing its video games, personal computers, mobile electronics and software divisions.

Analysts say that for Sony to climb back to profitability, it must consider exiting product areas where it lags behind rivals. Once an electronics powerhouse, Sony now trails in market share in many of the products it sells, including televisions, video game consoles and digital music players.

AMD's CEO Talks Spin-Off, Intel, Small Laptops

Dirk Meyer, during a phone interview, said he is confident with his company’s ability to compete and believes that processors for smaller laptops could be the key.

"What AMD stockholders will own is AMD the product company. It will happen that AMD the product company will own an equity interest in The Foundry. RIAA Layoffs Confirmed

It looks like the RIAA has confirmed an earlier rumor that it has made significant layoffs. While layoffs are never a good thing, there is a bright side to this news…people that were affected by the RIAA downsizing will definitely be working for a better company at their next job.

The Washington, DC-based RIAA did not initially respond to inquiries, though representative Cara Duckworth eventually confirmed details by email early Thursday morning. "Can't confirm number but I can confirm there were layoffs," Duckworth relayed. "As you can imagine, the music community is not immune from the impact of these tough economic times."

Judge Orders Defendant to Decrypt PGP-Protected Laptop

A U.S. District Court judge has ordered the defendant in a criminal case to decrypt his hard drive by typing in his PGP password so prosecutors can view the files on his PC. The question here is whether or not forcing the defendant to give access to the data on the drive violates his Fifth Amendment rights.

"Boucher is directed to provide an unencrypted version of the Z drive viewed by the ICE agent," Sessions wrote in an opinion last week, referring to Homeland Security's Immigration and Customs Enforcement bureau. Police claim to have viewed illegal images on the laptop at the border, but say they couldn't access the Z: drive when they tried again nine days after Boucher was arrested.

Beware Fake Corsair Survivor Drives

As the proud owner of a Corsair Survivor 32GB drive it is my duty to spread the word that there is at least one company out there selling fake Corsair Survivor drives. Corsair has informed us that they do not make a 64GB or 128GB version of the Survivor being offered by unscrupulous companies so beware of any retailer listing drives in those sizes. You can avoid fake products by buying only from reputable retailers. This has been a [H] public service announcement.
