If AT&T Ran The Highway System

Now this is just flat out funny, unless of course you are an AT&T subscriber.

If AT&T ran the highway system, things would be different. Only AT&T-approved cars would be allowed on the roads, all of which would be toll roads. Drivers would have to prepay their tolls, based on the estimated number of miles they expected to drive. Those who drove fewer miles than estimated would get no refund; those who drove more would be charged for the overage at a higher rate.

Japanese Porn Industry Embraces Blu-Ray Disc

The Japanese porn industry has taken a shining to Blu-ray. Though Sony claims to have a strict policy against porn, the company doesn’t have a problem selling its equipment to porn producers that press the movies in Taiwan and ship it back into Japan.

The Taiwanese company was able to obtain a pressing machine from Sony and will start mass production in August." Sony says its policy of not allowing its disc replicating subsidiary, Sony DADC, to copy adult films has not changed. But the company is offering technical support to any film makers looking for help, no matter what industry, a spokeswoman said Monday.

Gates Will Step Away From MS As Planned

Though most people are skeptical that Bill Gates will step away from Microsoft altogether, the company’s head honcho has reaffirmed his plans to step away next year as planned.

"I am in a lucky situation of having way more things that seem interesting to do and very exciting and important, and working with smart people, and highly impactful, way more than a 24-hour day will fit," Gates said. To be sure, there is widespread skepticism in the industry about the possibility of Gates genuinely disengaging.

State investigators had "also found inappropriate images and content" on the service, the Times reported.

Philips Develops Oil & Water Based Flexible Display

This new flexible display technology being developed by LG Philips is pretty impressive. Now all they need to do is make them cheap enough and start mass producing them and they are all set.

LG Philips has come up with another idea. Instead of making pixels out of OLEDs, it has designed them out of oil and water contained in tiny plastic cells connected to plastic electrodes. The oil, which is opaque, floats on the water and obscures a colored surface beneath.

ACLU Objects To License Plate Reader

It seems that the American Civil Liberties Union of Ohio has a problem with the Mobile Plate Hunter 900. The device can read up to 900 license plates per hour, then compares them to a computerized list from the National Crime Information Center. So far the system has busted a handful of bad guys but the ACLU thinks that it's an infringement on a driver's right to privacy.

Since the patrol began using the scanners in 2004, it has recovered 95 stolen cars - valued at $740,000 - and made 111 arrests, said patrol spokesman Lt. Shawn Davis. The plate hunter has made roads safer, he said.
